In 1975 he graduated Cum Laude from the Academy for Fine Arts in Arnhem, the Netherlands
Several years of private lessons in old painting techniques inproved his skills.
He uses various techniques like oil painting, airbrush, etching, sculpture, but above all he is a highly skilled draughtsman. Portraits are an important part of his work.
His work is found in collections all over the world.
Beside his work as a fine artist, he works as graphic designer and digital image editor.
He also spreads his artistic skills as a drawing master.
Géphil is an artist in the tradition of 'Fantastic Realism'.
That means he portrays imaginary things through a realistic way of drawing, etching and painting.
He documents dreamlike images with the precision that exceeds that of photography. These images make us glimpse into a mirror. But is isn't a mirror in wich one can recognize their own reflection. This mirror reflects images from our unconscious.
This artist presents symbols on a silver platter that normally play a vague and for the most part unknown role in the deepest recesses of our mind.
This makes this artist the visual chronicler of our unconscious mind.
When confronted, for the first time, with this special quality of this artists' work one will question the reality of their consciousness. This is as it should be, because, how conscious are we anyway?
In daily life, we are used to thinking in tree dimensions. We are totally absorbed by it. Not the artist who descents into the obscure catacombs of the reptile mind. He finds dimensions behind dimensions, anti matter bihind matter. He shows us not only the objective exterior, but also the subjective interior of the matter.
Men say, "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder", and that is true. Just as the poet gives voice to the appenrently inexpressible, this artist makes the seemingly invisible, visible.

Géphil is een kunstenaar in de traditie van het fantastisch realisme. Dat wil zeggen: hij verbeeldt imaginaire zaken door middel van een realistische manier van tekenen, etsen en schilderen.
Met meer dan fotografische precisie legt hij ijle visioenen en droombeelden vast. Beelden die hun beschouwer een spiegel voorhouden.
Maar dan niet een spiegel waarin zij hun uiterlijke gestalte herkennen, maar een spiegel die beelden uit het onderbewuste weerkaatst.
Symbolen die normaal een vage en grotendeels onbekende rol spelen in de diepste krochten van onze geest, worden ons door de kunstenaar als het ware op een zilveren presenteerblad aangereikt. En dat maakt hem tot een pictorale kroniekeur van ons collectief onderbewuste.
Wie voor het eerst met deze bijzondere eigenschap van het werk van deze kunstenaar geconfronteerd wordt, kan licht gaan twijfelen aan de kwaliteit van zijn eigen bewustzijn. En terecht. Want hoe bewust zijn wij eigenlijk, als je het goed beschouwt?

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, zegt men aan gene zijde van de Noordzee, en zo is het maar net. Zoals de dichter stem geeft aan het schijnbaar onuitsprekelijke, zo maakt de kunstenaar het onzienbaar gewaande zichtbaar.
